GET TO KNOW EACH NURSING HOME RESIDENT'S individuality with these ESSENTIALS from the  NURSING HOMES ACTIVITIES MAIL BOARD program.

Personalized Room Posters, Badges, Awards and specialized Greeting Cards

This is the category that outlines the major socializing aspects of the MLI  Program and pulls the activities together for everyone. Anyone, including some residents, can help fill out and distribute these posters and badges. Some visitors will make the purpose of their visit to walk around, chatting with residents about their posters. Outside entertainers can easily pay a short visit to two or three residents who couldn’t make it to the show. Just a few minutes of conversation, gleaned from the “ABOUT ME” page will make a resident feel special. Anyone can help a resident get a star on his or her poster. Residents sometimes help other residents get their star for the month.

Below are descriptions of the segments on this poster.

Birthday Poster and Badge

How to use it:

All visitors, including delivery people, can take a moment to extend a smile and a birthday wish, when they see a sign or badge. The staff can also wear a birthday badge so residents have the chance to say happy birthday.  Many residents will make it their personal responsibility to make the rounds, extending birthday wishes. Even those confined to their rooms can get a birthday poster and some birthday blessings from passers-by.

About Me Poster

How to use it:

Family and friends can help residents fill out this simple form and put it on their wall. It’s just some quick notes of personal information about where they are from, their family, an accomplishment they are proud of, and a few favorite things. It helps us to recognize the uniqueness of each resident and gives us instant access to something to comment on that will be of interest to the resident and to us.

Name Badges

How to use them:

It’s hard to remember an individual’s name when they’re part of a group and you don’t see them very often.  But each of us is pleased when someone speaks our name. The name badges make it possible for us to give this consideration to residents when we have a conversation or just say a quick hello. Only first names are necessary.

Favorite State Poster:

How to use it:

These posters on a resident’s wall not only serve as proud reminders of special states but also a great opening for a conversation. A resident might choose a particular state to display on his or her wall for several reasons:   Grew up there - Lived there for a while and have great memories of it - Someone important to them lives or works there now.  There could be other reasons. Whatever they are, each resident will know and make a choice. So why is a certain state chosen by a resident? Just ask.

Star Awards:

How to use them:

Sometimes shyness, insecurity or low self-esteem will stop us from talking with other people or participating in what could be a good time. A resident may want to participate but is reluctant to ask.

We approached this problem, directly, with a two-step process. To make them comfortable with the board, we ask that they visit it once a month and share at least one activity with someone. Then they get a star on their monthly poster and badge.

This star signifies that this person is ready and willing to share the board activities.

This poster, in their room, also serves as a daily reminder, that there is a place to go if they want to talk and visit with others.

LOVEN BLOOM Greeting cards

For many residents, giving cards has been part of their lifestyle, but now getting out and looking for just the right one is nearly impossible. We felt that if cards were available to them, upon request, that each of them would have the opportunity to send one, if they thought about it and desired to do so. So we have designed some simple, bi-fold cards, which can be printed on standard 8 x 11 ½ colored paper or regular card stock.

Special Notes:

  • These cards are not intended for people outside of the home to give to the residents. Outside people have plenty of opportunities to buy a card.

  • Whenever residents can get professional cards, we suggest that they do that. But when they can't, Loven Bloom is a convenient alternative.

  • If a special one is needed for a resident, let us know. We’ll make it free of charge.
