Jobs For Nursing Home Residents-Residents can choose jobs that fit their personality - FROM THE NURSING HOMES ACTIVITY MAIL BOARD.because a decision to help oneself and others enhances one's self image.
This
is the secret of why New Year’s resolutions make us feel
so good. They are our commitment to taking control of some area of our
lives, to do something positive. Even
if we don’t keep them, we’ll
make them again next year, because just the act of making the decision
gives us a sense of purpose and good feelings about ourselves.”
That is why we gave this category a
permanent place on the Mail Board. It serves as a continuous reminder
that the mail is meant to be shared, and describes ways to share it and
take pride in it. It also gives any resident the opportunity to make a
decision and experience that feeling of committing to a worthwhile
purpose, every time they read it. Some of these jobs will fit right into the personalities of residents, who will enjoy taking responsibility toward the care and functioning of their Mail Board. Some residents won’t be able to do these jobs, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make the decision to do them, thus experiencing the good intentions. Any and all follow through will be an asset for all residents and the home in general. The following are the actual job descriptions which are posted on the board. They emphasize helping others, sharing what one can and being sociable.
JOBS FOR RESIDENTS
MLI
BULLETIN BOARD SHERIFF: Be willing to
help your Activities Director post letters on your MAIL BOARD every
week. Be willing to keep a watchful eye on your MAIL BOARD to make sure
it is always clean and clear of any written material except for the
letters, so you can always be proud to show it to VISITORS. Be willing
to make sure that nothing blocks the area in front of your board, that
would prevent a person from walking, or rolling their wheelchair up to
your board to view it.

SPECIAL DELIVERY PEOPLE: Be willing to
take a copy of one of the mail items on your MAIL BOARD to a RESIDENT who
is unable to leave their room today. Show it to them and share it with
them by reading it or talking about it. You may want to sing to them or
teach them this week’s song. Even if a person who is confined to
a room is unable to respond, we should still share the mail with them,
several times a week. There is a chance that somewhere inside their
spirit, they hear it and smile. Let’s be an angel and go for that
chance.

HOSTS AND ESCORTS: Be willing to
show hospitality to the visitors, in your home, by guiding them to your
MAIL BOARD. When one of your fellow residents is having difficulty
getting to the board, be willing to help them, so they can read and
enjoy it.

READERS: Be willing to
read the letters aloud to others or help them read.

SONG LEADERS: Be willing to sing and happy to teach others the words and tune to the songs that you know. It's a fine idea to visit others who can’t leave their room. Sing one song to them, every day. It builds a good feeling in their room.

TALKERS: Do you like to talk – talk – talk? Do you like to swap stories? Then we need your talent for talking. Be willing to come to your MAIL BOARD often and invite others to join you in sharing the activities.
